1 1/2 cups butter
1/2 to 3/4 cups finely chopped onion
1 cup finely chopped celery
3 - 4 quarts day old bread cubes
1 Tablespoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 - 1 1/2 teaspoons dried sage
1 or more cups of turkey/chicken stock (optional)
this makes a dry crumbly stuffing. if you want a moist stuffing, add chicken
stock until it is the consistency you want starting with 1 cup.
- nancy's note - I make this at least a day ahead of time and usually bake it in
the oven during the last 30 or so minutes of roasting the turkey - I prefer sage
or poultry seasoning but hardly ever measure it so the amounts listed are from
the actual recipe - I just taste it as I'm stirring it to see if I have
"enough".... I ALWAYS have to try to hide it since DH nibbles on it if I don't.
