Serves 8 well.
1 1/2 cups chopped onion
1/2 cup red bell pepper chopped
1/4 cup green bell pepper chopped
2 big cloves of garlic, minced
2 large eggs, beaten
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
Salt and pepper to taste
2 pounds ground beef
1/2 pound sausage (not Italian)
3/4 cup fine bread crumbs
1 Tablespoon butter
1 Tablespoon oil
In a frying pan, saute onion, bell peppers, and garlic.
Cook on low until wilted, about 10 minutes.
In a large mixing bowl, add meats, and remaining ingredients mixing well.
Add sauteed vegetables and mix well again.
Shape into a long oval—resembling a loaf of French bread.
Bake at 375º F in a baking pan, for approximately 45 minutes.
