Pantry first aid treatments
* If you are out of rubbing alcohol, vanilla extract is a great substitute because it has high alcohol content and would be great for cleaning out cuts.
* Baking soda mixed with water to make a paste is a great antibacterial agent for cuts, scrapes and sunburn pain.
* Meat tenderizer or lemon juice relieves itch from insect bites.
* For bee stings to relieve pain and swelling first apply ice or a cold compress, and then try a moist tea bag, onion slices or a paste made from baking soda or vinegar.
* For poison oak and rashes apply a cool mixture of oatmeal and water.
* For sprains, bruises and painful joints mix cayenne powder with petroleum jelly and rub on the sore area. Any ground up chili pepper will work as well. These peppers contain a substance called capsaisin, which has pain-relieving properties.
* For sore and blistered feet soak in a foot-bath filled with an oatmeal mixture.
