Great way to slice stuff (olives, etc.)

Ever wanted to slice something quickly & evenly? I always use my egg slicer. It slices strawberries, kiwis, eggs , bananas, olives, mushrooms, etc. As long as the food doesn't have a tough outer skin (like tomatoes) your egg slicer works great.

Great trick -- Oven bags in Crockpot

I wanted to pass on a real time/energy saver I just found out about (sorry if everyone already knows this but me!) I have one of the large, oblong crock pots and since it's just hubby and myself I hardly fire it up since it takes so much to fill it. I heard you could use Reynolds oven bags in it and make multiple meals at a time. Yesterday I decided to give it a whirl, and in one bag I put 3 chicken breasts, new potatoes, carrots, a Lipton seasoning pack and a bit of broth; in the other bag I put 3 chicken breasts, a can of "mexican style" diced tomatoes, a can of "carribian style" black beans and some cumin and cayenne. Well we get back from the baseball game and have two delicious dinners to choose from! I dumped the mexican one in a "tupper-maid" type container and shredded the chicken with two forks (from the crockpot? A cinch!) and dumped in a half cup or so of instant rice and put the lid on. The rice cooked while we ate the chicken/potatoes/carrots dinner and I'll have it tonight in tortillas or something. YUM! Best of all, the crock pot could go back in the cupboard as soon as it was cool -- no need to wash it!

Hope this post inspires some of you to pull out those dusty crockpots, lol...perfect for busy summertime days!

The secret to a nice, moist cake

I most always use boxed cake mixes. (Pillsbury) I have a friend who was in the catering business and her cakes were wonderful...and easy too! Basically, take your boxed cake mix and follow the directions EXCEPT remove the oil content and replace it with 2T of mayo. This makes a very dense, moist cake every time!

You can also use 7-up for white cakes and Coke for dark cakes in place of water!
