Southern Candied Butternut Squash
6 medium butternut squash (cut in pieces) (or sweet potatoes)
3/4 cup water
2 cups brown sugar
4 Tablespoons melted butter or margarine
Put water, sugar and butter in an oven safe Skillet or Pan on a low burner to simmer.
Peel and boil Butternut Squash.
When tender, transfer them to the syrup and bake in a moderate oven 300°F for 30 minutes.
For Nutted Sweet Squash add, when almost done, 1/4 cup broken pecans or walnuts.
