1 1/4 pounds (500grams) beef, cubed
3 Tablespoons all-purpose (plain) flour
2 medium onions, sliced
1/2 pint (300 milliliter) beer (ale)
2 teaspoons prepared mustard (paste)
1 teaspoon brown sugar
salt and pepper
3 ounces (85 grams) self-raising flour
1 ounce (25 grams) butter
1 teaspoon dried herbs
pinch salt and pepper
2 fluid ounces (50 milliliters) milk
Put the flour in a plastic bag and add the beef.
Toss around until coated.
You could now brown the meat if you desire - however we did not have time.
Put the beef and onion in the slow cooker.
Mix the other ingredients together and pour over the beef.
Cook on low for 8-10 hours
Sometime during this period make the dumplings.
Combine all the ingredients, with sufficient milk (may need slightly more or less) to make a soft dough.
Shape into four to six balls.
About 40 minutes prior to serving, put the dumplings in the slow cooker.
Turn on high, replace lid and enjoy in 30-40 minutes.
