5 pound bag baking potatoes or 9 large
8 ounces cream cheese
1-1/2 cups sour cream
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 stick butter or margarine, divided use
Shredded or grated cheddar cheese, for topping, to taste
Pretzels, crushed, to put on top: To taste
Do not oversalt the mashed potatoes, as the pretzels will have salt*
Cook potatoes until tender.
Drain, then mash until smooth.
Add cream cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, salt, pepper & 1/2 stick of butter or margarine.
Beat until fluffy.
Pour into a greased 9X13 casserole dish & dot with remaining butter or margarine.
Sprinkle grated cheddar cheese, sprinkled across the top of the potatoes, as much as you would like.
Then add crushed pretzels over that, to cover topping of cheese.
