Ranch in a Jar (from Berghoff Cafe)
I quickly jotted down the bare bones of this recipe, while perusing cookbooks in a Lancaster bookstore. The the author of the book, containing recipes from the Berghoff family, of the famous Berghoff Cafe - a landmark in downtown Chicago - stated that the simple dressing is "my children's favorite ranch dressing".
Makes about 2 1/2 cups
Ingredients:
1 cup light mayonnaise
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup lowfat sour cream
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 Tablespoon rice vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon dried parsley
Instructions:
(Condensed from book)
Combine all ingredients in a one-quart Mason jar (glass canning jar with a screw-on, air/watertight lid).
Screw lid on lightly, then shake vigorously until well mixed.
Refrigerate two hours before using.
Keeps in refrigerator for one week.
