1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup soft butter
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 (10-ounce) jar maraschino cherries
6 ounces chocolate chips
1 can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk
Sift dry ingredients together.
Cream butter and sugar.
Add egg and vanilla, then blend well.
Add dry ingredients and mix well.
Roll into 1-inch balls and place on ungreased cookie sheets.
Make a thumbprint in center of each cookie.
Drain cherries, saving the juice.
Place a cherry in the centre of each cookie.
(Sometimes you might need to just use half or even a quarter of a cherry.)
Melt chocolate and condensed until just soft.
Stir in 4 teaspoons cherry juice.
Spoon about 1 teaspoon frosting on top of each cookie to cover cherry.
Bake at 350ºF for approximately 10 minutes.
