Chocolate Cream Drops were the sign of Christmas at my house when I was a child.
We always scratched the bottom to check which color/flavor was on the inside, trying to avoid the dreaded WHITE ones. Now you are hard-pressed to find Cream (or Creme) Drops that have anything except White fillings. With this recipe you can split the filling and flavor and color it to your hearts desire.
1/2 cup cream or cream and milk, half and half
2 cups granulated sugar
*1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
melted chocolate for coating (traditionally Milk Chocolate)
Boil cream and sugar together for five minutes.
*Pour into a bowl and set into another of cold water and stir in the vanilla (or other flavor/color combo).
Stir until hard enough to make into balls (or form in any fancy mold preferred).
With a pair of forks dip each one of these separately into the coating chocolate.
Put them on a sheet of wax paper to cool.
This amount will make about 4 dozen Cream Drops of traditional size.
