1 cup long grain rice ( American) washed twice
1 pound deboned turkey meat ( chunked)
1/2 pound ham ( chunked)
1 large can stewed tomatoes
1 tablespoon basil
1 tablespoon thyme
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 tablespoon salt ( optional )
Put everything together in a dutch oven or heavy pot with lid, add enough water to cover 1/2 inch over ingredients. Bring to a boil. Stir well, reduce heat to lowest setting, cover and steam as in cooking plain rice. Stir occassionnally and quickly at least 2 times. Steam until rice is tender.
Alternate ingredients may be added such as oysters and andouille sausage. Serve with a salad and hot french bread.
