like cakes, pies, yeast rolls, quick breads and cookies, which we didn't have very often anyway. But no, she didn't really have recipes for cooking; she just cooked. I mean, most people (at least back then) knew how to make meatloaf, chicken fried steak, salmon croquettes, roast chicken, pork chops, soups etc. as well as side dishes and salads. She cooked every night, but I never saw her use a recipe for any kind of meal. I cooked that way, too, for about 20 or so years. And then a whole new world opened up for me--the internet.
I do get where you're coming from. It's annoying to have to make a special trip to the store for some ingredient you don't have. But I tired long ago of the same old, same old. And we don't eat the same as we used to, either. I haven't had a chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy in decades. So I welcome new and interesting, tasty and healthy recipes, even if I have to shop a little.
