One tip you probably already know--if you overfill and the batter leaks outward of the pattern,

you can trim the excess off neatly with kitchen scissors as soon as they come out of the appliance. Once they cool off, it will just crack off instead of trim. I try not to overfill, but I do sometimes. Most of the time I don't get them filled out all the way. But imperfections just make them charming. grin
